Flight Arrivals at Hamburg Airport
Hamburg International Airport has all it takes to make a traveler's journey an enjoyable one. There are ample facilities that will meet visitor’s expectation. Though the airport is the oldest airport still in use in Germany, it has been greatly modernized in order to provide maximum comfort to travelers. In 2009 the “new” airport presented a modern, state of the art face to the world after an extensive regeneration program that saw new terminal buildings, hotels, runways and landing strips being built over a twenty year period.
Arrivals at Hamburg Airport will find there are plenty of services at the two terminals to make a visit to Hamburg a happy one. The airport’s information and help desk in the airport office will provide visitors with all the necessary information regarding onward travel, car hire and hotels in the airport area and the city center. At this office, visitors can book their accommodation for any hotel of their choice. The information desk can also advise on different events taking place in and around the airport, and visitors can buy tickets for any event they wish to attend.
Hamburg Airport Arrivals offer business services at the airport office such as key or document deposit services and fax and photo services. The airport office is also the sales area for the tickets for the Kielius travel service for domestic travel destinations, local public transport services, souvenir and travel articles and tickets for sports events.
Arrivals at Hamburg Airport coming for business meetings or seminars in the city can avail themselves of the facilities at the airport’s conference center. There are 7 conference rooms properly equipped with modern business facilities and each can accommodate up to 80 people. Trolley services are also provided. The conference room equipment, such as the media trolley with VHS, DVD, projector and TV, is available at the cost of 50.00 Euros per hour. There is also a conference center at Terminal 2 in Hamburg Airport. That conference center has 14 rooms suitable for any type of party or conference.
VIP arrivals at Hamburg Airport can take advantage of the airport’s VIP services. A separate VIP parking lot is provided at the cost 30.00 Euros for every 4 hours. VIPs will be pampered right from the moment their flight arrives. The VIP bus will pick them up in case the plane stops some distance away from the terminal building. VIP services at the airport lounge cost 23.80 Euros per person.
Getting to the city center from Hamburg Airport is easy. Several car rental companies are available at Hamburg Airport. Some of the car rental firms present at Hamburg Airport are Avis, Europcar, Hertz , Buchbinder, Alamo and Sixt. Their booking points are at Level 0 of Terminal 2. Taxis wait in a designated area just outside the terminal to take visitors into the town center or to the central train station. There are also railway services available in front of the terminals. Trains run every 10-20 minutes. However, passengers planning to use the train should know that trains do not run from 0:00 am to 4 am since there are no flights from 11 pm to 6 am due to night time flight restrictions over the residential areas surrounding the airport.
Hamburg’s city center has lots of places of interest for tourists. The largest seaport in Europe, Hamburg allows tourists to join a boat tour in the harbour to explore the amazing shipping trade going through Hamburg’s port. The infamous red light district in Hamburg’s Reeperbahn attracts thousands of tourists every year, but families can rest assured there are many attractions suitable for them, from one of the world’s largest miniature railway complex at Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg’s Speicherstadt to Hagenbeek’s Zoo, one of the world’s oldest and largest zoos.
Further afield are the seaside resorts along the Baltic and the North Sea coasts. Sandy white beaches, rolling fields, forests traversed by rivers and fresh water lakes abound in Hamburg’s neighbouring State of Schleswig-Holstein.
